Monthly TBR

November 2020 TBR

Salutations friends! Welcome back to my little corner in the community. I hope you all are staying healthy and staying cozy as the weather turns colder. For my southern hemisphere friends, I hope you’re doing well and staying cozy too. So, if you saw my October wrap up, October didn’t go so well especially with my reading. I want to say my hopes are high for November, but then I’d be lying to you. I say this every year, the last two months of the year are always the hardest for me reading wise. Around this time of year a plethora of things are happening like traveling, visiting family, becoming sick and recovering from being sick, birthdays and holidays, etc… It’s usually a stressful time and I get very homesick, and with the pandemic still continuing, my homesickness has been coming in large waves. So keeping all of this in mind, I wanted to keep my tbr kind of light this time with books I believe I can read within this month. And with any luck, I’ll be able to finish all five books!

Also, November is an incredibly important month. This article is being posted on November first and November first marks the first day of Native American Heritage Month here in North America or as my family, myself, and many other Natives know it as, Turtle Island. With this, I also want to refer to you to one of my past Top Ten Tuesday posts. This post addresses the holiday in this month and provides some resources so you can continue to learn, grow, and in the post I talk a little bit of my own conflictions with this holiday. I don’t want to spend too much time talking about this so soon in the month, but that post is available with resources if you wish to grow and learn. Anyway, I’ll be listing some fellow Indigenous content creators down below for you to follow and help boost their voices during this whole month. And of course, in my IG stories I try to always boost the voices of my fellow Indigenous content creators (though I’ve slacked recently due to being sick). So please check out their page and give each one of them a follow. They all have amazing content!

I’m really enjoying my time reading this anthology and I’m taking it slow so I can process the content of the book. I do need to warn that this book revolves around covid and how various families, young adults, etc… have been impacted due to the covid pandemic. If you find yourself wanting to pick this anthology up, but you’re covid is a trigger for you or a sensitive topic to take on right now, I would recommend setting this book to the side or practicing self-care before and during this book.

Dragons & Tea Book Club November Pick πŸ‰

I probably shouldn’t pick up another mystery thriller book because they haven’t been my strong suit recently, but I really want to read this. The synopsis alone has me intrigued, but I was also sent a finished copy by the author. So I really need to get this book read soon! Plus, it’s the Dragons & Tea Book Club November pick.

I’m truly excited for this read. The blessings for the amazing person at Epic Reads who answered my prayers to receive an arc of this book. I’m not going to lie, I lost hope in getting an arc of this book, but the minute this came in the mail, I was so happy. This is one of my 2021 anticipated releases and I’m so excited to be reading this for Native American Heritage Month!

*takes a deep breath* I’m so excited to finally be reading this and I’m starting it immediately!!! There aren’t enough words to convey how long I have been waiting to find an Apache author to come along and write a ya fantasy book. My heart is screeching, my soul is cheering, and there aren’t enough words to say how ready I am to pick this book up. I have no doubt this is going to be my number one book release of 2020!

Remember how I always talk about poetry and works of literature coming into our lives when we need it the most? Yeah, this is one of those times. I was kindly given an arc of this poetry collection and after reading the synopsis, I have no doubt this is going to speak volumes to my soul.

Last year I read Sheets and really enjoyed reading it. I’m super excited to be back with the second book, Delicates! I’m excited to see how this one is going to play out. From the sneak peeks I’ve seen, I’m very intrigued and I’m excited to dive back into this world.

πŸ‚ Readathons πŸ‚

Of course I have to talk about a very important readathon that’s taking place during November. As I mentioned above, November is Native American Heritage Month here in the states. As I mentioned, this is a very important month on a plethora of levels for many Native/Indigenous content creators, myself and my family, and this month should be used as a time to really uplift Indigenous voices.

I’m really hoping I can participate in IndigAThon this month (this does take place during the whole month of November), but with trying to recover from a really bad reading slump and how October turned out, I don’t know how well it’s going to turn out. Plus, as I mentioned above, this time of year my focus always turns towards my family. However, if you want to participate, you can stay update via the Twitter page or the IG page!

Of course if you’re on my blog or following my other social media, you already know that I’m Apache. I know I listed so, so many content creators from the book community, but each one of their voices is important and even though I try to boost their voices on the daily, I wanted to boost their voices here on my blog as well. I also want to acknowledge that there are probably many other Native/Indigenous content creators in the book community who I may not know about yet, but I hope I get to meet them soon and see the wonderful content they create.

Okay, I think I covered everything happening during the month of November. It’s a pretty important month that deserves a lot more attention than what it usually receives. So I hope during this month you uplift the voices of Indigenous content creators, authors, artists, and support Indigenous organizations. Oh! And I hope you read lots of books this month too! And if a few of those are by Indigenous authors, that would be really freaking cool and I want to hear your thoughts on those books. Might I recommend two of my favorites this year? The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones and Black Sun (Between Earth and Sky, #1) by Rebecca Roanhorse are still in my thoughts months after I’ve read them! Until next time, may your month be filled with five star reads! I love you! 🧑

    1. There’s definitely a lot of Native authors out there. I recommend following some of the content creators especially Erin and Dani, they read a lot more books by Native authors than I do. I hope we both have a lovely month of reading! ❀️
